The disappearance of low unemployment and an apparent return to the days of abundant labor is a short-term phenomenon. As the baby-boom generation moves inexorably towards retirement, shortages of labor will be worse than anything experienced in the past. This presentation discussed the impact of a graying population and trends that will affect staffing in the near term. Innovative strategies for dealing with the coming labor shortage were addressed.
