"Collaborative Networks: a key element of organizational capability"
October 26, 2006

Presented by Hubert Saint-Onge

New technology and virtual tools allow for work to get done through unprecedented levels of interaction and collaboration. This new reality is having a radical impact on how organizations work and create value. As these networks become more and more prevalent, work no longer follows the hierarchical structure of the organization. "Network structures" are becoming the platform for capability building at both the individual and organizational levels.

Organizational performance today has come to depend on a higher capacity for collaboration, learning and innovation in order to cope with a fast changing environment. More than ever collaborative networks are essential to providing integrated solutions.

This session will explore the following questions:

  • How do collaborative networks complement the hierarchical structure of an organization?
  • What are the characteristics of a networked organizational environment?
  • What are the leadership implications of leading through networks?
  • How do you build the capability for greater levels of collaboration?
  • How can management teams foster high levels of collaboration?
  • What concrete steps can be taken to gradually increase the collaborative index of an organization?
  • How do you structure an intervention to enhance collaboration between organizational units?
