"Are You a Trusted Advisor?"
February 21, 2008

Presented by James E. Lukaszewski, Author

  • Do executives regularly seek out your opinion and advice before making key business decisions?
  • Now that "you’re at the table", are you able to articulate ideas and concerns effectively?
  • Do people remember what you say and perhaps quote you in other places and venues?
  • Do others seek out your ideas or share their agendas and beliefs with you in the hope of influencing you to influence the behavior of others more senior than you?

Getting to the table and having significant influence in the inner circle are the questions and topics to be covered at the February meeting of the HR Executive Forum. The speaker will be James E. Lukaszewski, author of a new book from Jossey-Bass, "Why Should the Boss Listen to You? The Seven Disciplines of the Trusted Strategic Advisor."

Lukaszewski, a former Minnesotan now living in and working from Connecticut and New York, is a well-known national and international public relations and management communications expert. “We all have bosses,” says Lukaszewski, “and most of us would like those bosses to hear us better, pay attention to what we’re talking about and, in many cases, just do what we tell them.” Lukaszewski will lay out the crucial steps necessary to have serious influence on the boss.

All leaders have and need advisors. The questions each of us face every day - whether you’re an outside or inside advisor - are who gets the face time; who gets the access; who gets to have influence; who gets called in first and last; and, how can we do this more efficiently and more effectively? This is especially true for human resource managers, since people are a part of the success or failure of every organization. We need to know how to better access and influence the leaders we work for. The power of Jim’s advice is in its simplicity, pragmatism, and ethical sensibility.

Lukaszewski is one of America’s most well known crisis consultants to the leadership of large businesses and organizations. He has published five other books and is well known for his business storytelling capabilities and having the ears of many CEOs and leaders.
