Presented by Pete Ramstad, leader of PDI's Strategy Practice
The role of the HR function is at a critical crossroads. Never has talent been more necessary for competitive advantage. This has put the spotlight on HR, creating an opportunity for the function to have a sustained, strategic impact on the decisions about talent.
For years, the human resource professional has operated with a service model, providing a wide range of best-in-class services based on benchmark standards and using technology to improve efficiency. While that model has given many HR leaders a place "at the table," their function lacks the organizational impact of other functions, such as finance or marketing. For the past decade Pete Ramstad, in partnership with John Boudreau, has researched the evolution and impact of the HR function. Their work with top HR leaders has led them to develop a new decision science called Talentship. The fundamental premise of Talentship is quite simple: HR needs to shift its focus from the services it provides to the decisions it supports. While simple in concept, the implications are profound.
Join Pete Ramstad, leader of PDI's Strategy Practice, as he explains how the Talentship Decision Framework creates new strategic options for the HR function.
Based on a decade of applied research in some of the worlds most exceptional companies, Pete and his research partner John Boudreau (Center for Effective Organizations at USC) defined the new decision science of Talentship which has revolutionized thinking around how talent connects with strategy and how people create value. Their breakthrough thinking on how people create value and how that value can be measured has also transformed strategic HR system analysis.
Mr. Ramstad’s published work highlights some of the results from his research partnership with Professor Boudreau including within the areas of how people create value, how that value can be measured, and measuring the financial implications of employee development and effective management. His work has appeared in publications like Harvard Business Review, Human Resource Planning Journal, Human Resource Executive and The Human Capital Institute.
